An Application Process of Buddhist Psychological Principles for Enhancing Work Effectiveness of Bangkok Officers

Abstract

The study aims 1) to analytically study general conditions, problems and hindrances of Bangkok metropolitan officers’ performance; 2) to synthesize the constructing methods of an application process of Buddhist Psychological Principles for  enhancing Bangkok officers’ work effectiveness; and 3) to propose an application process of Buddhist Psychological Principles for  enhancing Bangkok officers’ work effectiveness. The study is a mixed methods research between a qualitative method and quantitative one in nature. For collecting qualitative data an In-depth interview is used to collect data from 17 key informants and Focus Group Discussion is also used for collecting qualitative data from 12 specialists.  A questionnaire is used to collect quantitative data from 254 respondents selected by a Random Sampling Method. For analyzing qualitative data a content analysis is employed and statistics including Frequency, Percentage, Mean and Standard Deviation is used for analyzing quantitative data.

Results of the study were as follows:

1. The general conditions of Bangkok officers’ performance were based on principles of service including generosity, convincing speech, rendering services, and equality consisting in impartiality to develop the qualities of generosity, good and effective communication, how to work in team, rendering services, and being determined to solve people’s problems; and problems of Bangkok officers’ performance was the lack of budget for training, seminar, academic forum and outside experiences for improving their particular work for the best performance.

2. The constructing methods of an application process of Buddhist psychological principles for  enhancing Bangkok officers’ work effectiveness was the integration of 4 principles of service with the support of Herzberg’s 5 satisfactory factors the support of Herzberg’s 5 satisfactory factors  applying each of 4 principles including generosity, convincing speech, rendering services, and equality consisting in impartiality as the core to enhance and develop Bangkok officers’ Buddhist Psychological qualities of achievement, recognition, work itself, responsibility and advancement to contribution to the organization, how to effectively communicate, the understanding of their work and responsibility, the ways of friendship building in the office, how to work happily, how to get relaxing by adding the food for brain and good health, seeking for new knowledge, enthusiasm, how to spend effective free time, how make good relations with office authorities, colleague and people, and how to contribute to the regularly getting rid of problems and grieves for people. 

3. The application of 4 principles of service upon their work effectiveness was generally high with the mean of 4.25, while considering each the highest was the job of service with the mean of 4.24, runner-up was the job of support with the mean of 4.22 and the least was the job of welfare; and the application of Herzberg’s 5 factors of job satisfaction upon their work effectiveness was generally high with the mean of 4.26, while considering each the highest was the loyalty to the organization with the mean of 4.28, runner-up was the atmosphere in the office with the mean of 4.27 and the least was the motive for working.
